There’s no denying that Eva Mendes is a stunning beauty. In fact, she’s been named one of Maxim and FHM’s hottest, sexiest women multiple times. Most people would agree that assessment. But there’s so much more to Eva Mendes than her signature beauty mark, full lips, and curvy figure. 

The Cuban American starlet was born in Miami, Florida, on March 5th, 1974. Following her parents’ divorce when she was 10 years old, Eva and her siblings moved to Los Angeles with their mother. Eva’s family didn’t have much money when she was growing up. “I was poor,” Eva said. “I came from a lower-middle-class family, so I would imagine all kinds of things.” One of the things Eva imagined was that she’d grow up to be a nun. It was a serious aspiration of hers, but as we all know, that it not the way things went for the future bombshell. 

By chance, Eva was “discovered” when an agent noticed her picture in a friend’s portfolio. While she was a Marketing major at California State University, she decided to leave school to pursue an acting career under the guidance of acting coach Ivanna Chubbuck, who has helped train famous actors such as Terrance Howard, America Ferrara, Djimon Hounsou, and Beyonce.

Given her devastating beauty, it’s not too much of a surprise that Eva started out appearing in music videos. She appeared in Aerosmith’s video for Hole In My Soul and Will Smith’s Miami. After a few small and supporting roles in films like Night at the Roxbury and Exit Wounds, Eva’s breakout role came in 2001’s Training Day, where she appeared alongside Denzel Washington as his character’s girlfriend. Following her role in Training Day, Eva began to take on juicier, co-starring roles in movies like Hitch, Ghost Rider, and Once Upon A Time in Mexico. 

Beyond acting, Eva also boasts a successful business career. As an entrepreneur, one of her most lucrative projects has been her successful clothing line in partnership with New York & Company. The Eva Mendes Collection launched in 2013 and is one the brand’s most popular lines. Eva is also the creative director for Circa Beauty, which is sold at New York & Company too as part of the Eva Mendes Collection. Eva has also been the face of many other brands, inking endorsement deals with Revlon, Calvin Klein, Thierry Mugler, and Magnum ice cream. When she’s not crushing the business world, she’s offering sage advice for young women who look up to her. “The word ‘ambition’ to me has never been a dirty word,” she said during the 2020 Create and Cultivate & Cultivate Summit in L.A. “I’m very ambitious… It’s always there, it ebbs and flows.” She also reminded budding entrepreneurs not to fear failure but to use it, saying “When a project isn’t successful, that’s when I learn the most.”
